MMIR Advisory Council
The 20-person Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) Advisory Council is intended to offer vital guidance and expertise to address the complex and deeply rooted challenges of the MMIR epidemic. It is comprised of people who have lived experienced as victims, family members of victims and expert leaders pulled from other fields who have a shared vision to address the root causes of MMIR in Minnesota.
Its purpose, according to the 2023 charter is to:
- Advise, consult with and make recommendations to the director of the MMIR Office, the DPS Commissioner and the DPS Tribal Liaison.
- Provide a community perspective regarding social issues related to MMIR and provide insight about gaps in systems in order to improve safety and response to vulnerable people.
- Appoint subcommittees in order to collaborate on specific areas in order to effectively focus on a topic related to the work done in the MMIR Office (DPS).

Meeting information, documents and minutes
The MMIR Advisory Council members hold virtual meetings on the second Wednesday of each month that are free and open to the public. Members have one in-person meeting annually, where the council will acknowledge the work done in the community.
